Triggers

/trig.ger/

n.noun

The term triggers, refers to a set of flashbacks or memory tape that causes an individual to relive to an event of trauma that happened in their past.

Each person’s particular trigger is unique and personal. Different things are known to trigger different people’s past experiences of trauma. An individual will react to this trigger with such an emotional intensity it is as if they are reliving the time of the trauma. An individual’s triggers are activated through one or more of the five senses: touch, smell, taste, sight and sound.

Although triggers can be a tough psychological battle, someone struggling with a personal trigger is not doomed for life. Someone experiencing triggers can overcome these flashbacks through therapy.
