Therapeutic Boarding School

Is a live-in school with strong values on the therapeutic community model that offers an educational program together with supervision and specialized structure for students with behavioral and/or emotional problems, learning difficulties, or substance abuse issues.

Similar to residential treatment centers, except RTC’s, they are more clinically focused and primarily provide behavior therapy and treatment for adolescents with more serious/severe conditions. The focus of a therapeutic boarding school is toward emotional and academic recovery involving structure and supervision for behavioral, emotional, physical, social, family, academic and intellectual development. Educational and therapeutic approaches vary greatly. The typical duration of a student’s enrollment in a therapeutic boarding school can range anywhere from one to two years. Students may either receive a high school diploma or credits for transfer to another secondary school.
