n. noun
Reactive attachment disorder (RAD) is a condition in which an infant does not establish an emotional or healthy relationship or attachment to that individual’s parents or family members. An individual who suffers from RAD but does not attend any therapeutic treatment usually carries their disorder throughout their entire lives.
An individual, who suffers from reactive attachment disorder, has a difficult time connecting with others and struggles when it comes to displaying any legitimate form of emotions. It most commonly originates from an individual’s failure to receive emotional needs such as, affection, comfort, and nurturing during their developmental childhood. Parents who adopt children of a certain age may unknowingly adopt a child who suffers from RAD. Although it is a difficult disorder to treat, reactive attachment disorder can be helped through the proper treatment.
